Todd Christopher McMahon Founder and CEO of Interpret Site L.L.C. was a Staff Archaeologist and the Colorado State Curation Coordinator at History Colorado (Office of the State Archaeologist). Todd McMahon retired from History Colorado in December 2022 after 30 years of public service at this institution. He formally managed and established the State-Approved Museums and Curatorial Repositories Program, a statewide network of local museums and institutions that hold artifacts and fossil collections in-trust for the State of Colorado. In that role, he was also a member of the Cultural Historical Resource Task Force (CHR) and supported these institutions when dealing with disaster threats to their collections. Prior to that, in addition to other duties, he managed and coordinated the State-wide Archaeology and Historic Preservation Week events and mini-event grant program by managing a large multi-year State Historical Fund grant. Todd also has extensive experience using geographical information systems, site archaeological data, and as a Section 106 National Historic Preservation Act reviewer. He also holds research interests in the Formative Period in west-central Colorado, Peruvian archaeology, Front-range archaeology, Hawai'ian archaeology and the prehistoric North American four-corner’s area.
Qualifications
Todd McMahon has over 30 years of employment as a professional archaeologist that includes over 10 years of work authoring the legal State standards, rules and guidelines as well as successful completion of inter-agency co-operative agreements for collections care and curation. Through authoring rules, publications, training presentations and direct collections care work, professional service, field and laboratory work Todd meets the Secretary of the Interior (SOI) standards for Curation (Curator) (see Todd's Curation Collections Care Portfolio) . Todd McMahon is also a Certified Interpretive Planner as recognized by the National Association for Interpretation. As a Staff member of History Colorado, Todd also led the development of three past archaeology exhibits (see Todd's past Non-Personal Media Portfolio).
Todd is a 4th generation Colorado native, married with three children and has actively served on many educational, neighborhood, archaeology and historic preservation committees and boards. Todd currently serves as the Chair of the Aurora Historic Preservation Commission, is a member of the Society for American Archaeology's Excellence in Public Education Awards Committee, the Colorado Council of Professional Archaeologists and a member of the National Association for Interpretation.

We believe in the Interpretive Approach
With Exhibit Developmemt - we follow Interpretative Practices and Project Archaeology Methods
- We believe in that interpretation serves a Purpose (this may include having the audience change a behavior or correct a misconception)
- Interpretation is Organized (generally includes a structure)
- Interpretation in Enjoyable (we want to stimulate inquiry)
- We believe that interpretation should be Thematic (people remember themes)
- Interpretation should be Relevent (people respond to ideas that they can realte to as human beings)
- Interpretation should meet Objectives and be Measurable in outcome
- Interpret Site's founder spent over 20 years in archaeology eduction using concepts developed for the program known as Project Archaeology
- Project Archaeology is an inquiry based educational system that stimulates individual based inquiry
- Interpretation and educational methods are often combined with Interpret Site L.L.C.'s unique approach
